Today's lawn care industry often shares a lot of advice, but some of it is wrong or confusing.  Please don't fall for it!

Some social media influencers tell us that soil conditioners, liquid aeration, root growth stimulators, and a variety of yearly "minerals" are necessary for a beautiful lawn. In reality, most, if not all, of these products are completely unnecessary or even snake oil.

Many big-box stores offer national brands with multi-use products that contain varying amounts of active ingredients and inert matter. Hence, customers pay mostly for filler, and the products are much less effective than claimed on the packaging.

In addition, we've been trained to believe that lawn care companies' one-size-fits-all "programs", where they visit your home only 5-7 times per year, and charge hundreds or even thousands for basic fertilization, is the norm.  These companies then push made-up services such as "spring wake-up" and "winterizing".  This often leads customers to select services based on marketing hype rather than the lawn's actual needs or optimal timing. For example, these companies may "recommend" aeration and overseeding in the spring, even though the correct timing is typically late summer to fall, if even necessary. To quickly move through their schedules, applicators often use heavy, ride-on machinery that damages grass and spreads chemicals unevenly, and sometimes describe it as "organic-based," a term which has no scientific meaning in the industry.
