Dear Chicagoland Friends,
As the weather warms up, many DIY enthusiasts are eager to get back into their yards for spring tasks such as applying fertilizer, aerating, and seeding to fill in any bare spots.
Additionally, we are being inundated by lawn care companies promoting their season-long "7-step plans," claiming they can "wake up" your lawn or offer "weed and feed" combo-type products.
Before you sign any contracts, take a moment to reconsider!
If you hired LawnLogIQ to manage your lawn last year or followed the fall blast instructions in your LawnLogIQ lawn care plan as a DIYer, you likely know that your lawn won't require much, if any, fertilizer this spring. Contrary to what lawn care companies suggest, if your lawn was properly maintained last fall (the TRUE growing season for grass in the Chicago area), it has everything it needs to thrive and will green up faster than any other lawn on the block.
Our focus should be on preventing spring weeds by applying pre-emergent at the right time and in the correct amounts. The ideal time for this application is not yet here in the Chicago area; it is determined solely by soil temperatures, not air temperatures!
In the meantime, while we wait for the soil temperatures to rise and the ground thaws, we can lightly rake our yards to lift any grass that has remained flat over the winter and blow leaves that might have accumulated along fence lines, suffocating grass. This promotes airflow and helps discourage early fungal growth.
Once the soil temperature is just right (a little early is beneficial, while late is not), we can apply the pre-emergent treatment and keep our lawns nearly weed-free throughout the year.
We will post when it’s time to apply the pre-emergent here in the Chicagoland area so you won’t miss this crucial step.
Alternatively, feel free to contact us to learn more about the DIY and fully managed lawn services we offer at LawnLogIQ.
At LawnLogIQ, we only apply what is scientifically proven to be necessary based on your unique soil tests. This is the environmentally friendly approach to lawn care.
Here’s to a fantastic 2025 season in the yard!
